The Staten Island Economic Development Corporation (SIEDC) announced at the annual SIEDC Business Conference that the 6th edition of Opportunity Magazine has been released to the public. The latest edition focuses on all public and private projects that are planned, proposed, or under construction in the borough. Opportunity Staten Island Magazine is a publication designed by the SIEDC to attract and retain businesses and new Investment to Staten Island.
Through Opportunity Staten Island Magazine the SIEDC is excited to highlight the latest development on Staten Island as well as outline the professional services available to the business community.
The suburban nature and strong community bonds of the area have been what defines Staten Island as a unique New York City borough. The publication highlights 11 unique projects that are a part of the evolving economic landscape that is redefining what makes the island stand apart. The New York Wheel, Empire Outlets, and Lighthouse Point are among the projects noted in the publication.
Staten Island is in many ways a borough of half a million people with a small town feel. The publication also provides and update on what’s happening in the local towns which are the heart of the community. Through work with elected officials, government agencies and business owners, SIEDC has launched various neighborhood development efforts which have resulted in the creation of three Business Improvement Districts (BIDS) and multiple merchant organizations – the West Shore BID, New Dorp BID, south Shore BID and Richmond Valley Merchants Association, Richmond Road Merchants Association, and Huguenot Merchants Association are featured in the publication including plans for future development and expansion.
Economic growth is always intertwined with investment in transportation and improved connectivity. Staten Island is no exception to this rule and SIEDC has been working for over a decade on effectively connecting roads, rails, parks and even the space in the sky to create a system to move residents and visitors throughout the borough. The West Shore Light Rail, Staten Island Gondola, and the Staten Island Skyway are three examples of innovative ideas to take action to address the transportation challenges and help Staten Island grow. Readers will learn the status of all of these projects in the latest issue of Opportunity Staten Island.
In the final section of the magazine the SIEDC highlights an economic snapshot of the borough and also an incentive guide to doing business or investing on the island. Included are demographics, wealth reports, population, and business support programs and resources.
